Overall Summary:
- Read a chapter 5+ times - ideally using different versions ...
- Ask questions of the content.
- Summarise the central thoughts.
- Easy method to learn - 10 basic steps.
- Not time consuming - 20-30 minutes.
- No need for reference tools, but can then start to dig deeper with them if you want to.
- Good method alongside quick reading.
- First read the chapter 5 or more times,non-stop, without reference to notes.
- Use different versions.
- Try reading aloud.
- As you read, gradually fill in the 10 sections of the form in any order.
- Caption: A short memorable descriptive title: 1-5 words.
- Contents: Summarise without comments; use paraphrase, description or list as appropriate to you and the passage.
- Chief People: Who? Why? What significance? Context? Reasons?
- Choice Verse: Key verse for the passage, or for your personal application.
- Crucial word(s): Key word or words; Frequency? Importance?
- Challenges: What do you find difficult here? Understanding? Further study needed?
- Cross References: What else in the Bible throws light on this passage? Use reference tools, footnotes, etc.
- Christ seen: What can I learn about the nature/work of Jesus from this passage? Attributes of God seen in Him?
- Central Lesson(s): List the major lessons and insights. Why is this chapter here? What does God want me to learn? What is the central thought?
