The Discipline of Giving

Mark 6:30-44

Note that Jesus looks to the Disciples to provide the resources and the faith;
'What have you got?'
'You feed them!'

Jesus calls us to excitement and risk;
Faith only works if God is God.
Follow promptings, e.g. financial challenges.

2 Corinthians 8:1-9

Excel in Giving - 'abound.'
Paul talks openly and transparently about £££!!! So should we!
Be responsive to urgent needs, as well as regular organised disciplined giving.
Paul does NOT teach commanded tithing, he teaches a response based on Grace.

Audit your giving

1: It's not wrong to do the Maths: 'How much have you got?'
2: Be generous and trust God: Give away your small fishes!
3: Decide and give at the start: if you leave it to later to see how much you've got, there won't be any left to give. Work out your giving budget for 2010 now!
4: Start young, like the boy with his lunch.
5: God is not bound by Maths.
